Frequently Asked Questions

These are a few of the more frequently asked questions in groups like this. If you have a question that is not listed here, please feel free to email us at info@garegency.org.

How much does it cost to join?

Membership is always free! In time there will be an optional $25 paid membership that will allow perks such as early bird notices on events, discounts on certain tickets, and more.

Who can join?

Everyone! We invite every person with an interest in the Regency era, be it tea, dancing, fashion, literature, music, or anything else at all to join us.

I don't live in Georgia. Can I still join?

Of course! Just because you don't live in the state doesn't mean you can't join us. We are happy to have members from all over.

Do I have to wear a costume?

As this is a "living history" or "reenacment" centered group, costume is polietly requested for most events. 100% period correctness isn't an issue as long as one tries. The years we center around are aproximately 1795 - 1825, but anything close to this is fine. If you don't have something to wear, there are a number of links to places where you can purchase clothing and accessories, or learn to make one yourself.. If you absolutely cannot get a costume, "mundane" clothes are acceptable unless otherwise specified. For events such as workshops, movie nights, and book readings a costume is 100% optional.

Do I have to attend every event?

Absolutely not! You are welcome to come to as few or as many of our events as you wish.

How can I volunteer to help?

We are always happy to have help with our ongoing projects. Please contact Stephanie at info@garegency.org to find out what upcoming events or current items need volunteer help.

I have an idea for an event, who do I contact?

Please contact Stephanie at info@garegency.org. We love hearing new ideas and are always open to suggestions.

May minors attend without a parent?

No. For the child's saftey as well as our peace of mind, anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

We will happily trade links of fellow reenactment organizations, artisans, merchants, and local venues relevant to the Regency Society of America. Please email us at info@garegency.org if you are interested. If you have a personal website and would like to post a link back to us, we have a couple banners here on the links page for your use. Please save the image to your own image hosting service instead of hot-linking.

Where are the GARS events held?

That entirely depends upon the event. Teas will be at tea rooms, balls at a larger more formal venue. All events will be posted at least six to eight weeks before they're to take place and notifications sent out via our Mailing List. Venue, cost, and directions will always be available on our Events page.

Who are you anyway?

We are a group of individuals from all walks of live who have come together to re-invoke the elegance, simplicity, and romance of a time gone-by. We are Jane Austen enthusiasts, English Country Dancers and Regency Dancers, the tea-obsessed, historic reenactors, regency romance novel readers, and oh, so much more.

Do you visit schools/churches/etc?

If you have an event you would like individuals from our group to come to, please email us at info@garegency.org to talk to us about what you're looking for. If we ourselves cannot provide what you're looking for, we may know someone local who can help instead.

Why was this group created?

The Georgia Regency society was created by history buff and avid costumer Stephanie Coté, imaged from the sister chapters on the west coast. Despite a growing number of history and costuming enthusiasts in the south east United States, there are a surprisingly low number of events to go to. This group was created in an effort to provide activities for these like-minded individuals to come together and enjoy.

Are there extra fees for events?

That depends upon the event. Some things may be either very inexpensive or entirely free, such as picnics, book readings, and movie nights. Other things like balls, teas, and workshops will have a fee to attend. Event information including price and location will be posted at least six to eight weeks before they're to take place and notifications sent out via our Mailing List. Venue, cost, and directions will always be available on our Events page.

How can I make a donation?

If you would like to make a donation to help support our group or for a door prize at an upcoming event, please email Stephanie at info@garegency.org. In return we will add you to our sponsors list on the Front page and a banner in the Venues and Sponors section of our Links page.

How do I find out about upcoming events?

Event information including price and location will be posted at least six to eight weeks before they're to take place and notifications sent out via our Mailing List. Venue, cost, and directions will always be available on our Events page.

I'd like to share my pictures/video from an event.

If you'd like to send us a link to info@garegency.org with your pictures or video, we will put a link-back on our photo / video page to your album.
